California-based Anneliesse’s Schools Are The Focus of Cooper Maron Documentary

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

A too-well-kept secret for more than 40 years, the Anneliesse Schools are the subject of a new short film by Cooper Maron Commissioned Films and California ad agency The Voyager Group.

In 1968, Anneliesse Schimmelpfennig opened the doors to the first of three innovative K-6 schools known simply as the Anneliesse’s Schools.  Unlike anything previously available to American school students, the Anneliesse‘s Schools emphasized early learning of multiple foreign languages, intimate classroom settings, inclusion of arts and music along with core academics, and above all, a respect for children as individuals.  Today, the campuses are a marvel of the imagination with rich shade trees and gardens, charming classrooms of stained glass, carved wood and ample natural light.  School meals include produce from the campus vegetable gardens that are studied and tended by the students and their teachers. The students display an incredible  balance of self-confidence, intelligence` and mutual respect.  Many of them have gone on to high achievement in high school and college, as well as advanced degrees and positions of leadership in adulthood.
